Meme is life

I find it interesting that a snap shot of today’s pop culture can be viewed through the lens of memes. Those mostly hilarious pics we see everywhere on social media are actually a narrative on popular opinion and thought. The ones that go viral obviously capture something in a large cross section of people, but if watched closely one can draw a lot on the flavour of particular groups through the popularity and trends of memes.

What I find most interesting is the emergence of female voice in memes, I’d go as far to say the assertion of female sexually is being normalised (finally) through these pop culture snippets.

Body image, relationships, employment, education, nothing is safe from memes and thats the way I like it. Big business gets a hiding, usually deservedly so, its put under the microscope and usually found lacking. Memes are a form of expression that tell us so much about our society. I also think they are breaking down barriers between groups by illustrating common struggles and giving us a window into the feelings of groups we may not necessarily normally interact with. Simply, meme is life…

Memes are okay as long as they are not taken too seriously. Mostly humorous and personal opinions are the best, but news is much more complex than a meme or what the media can show before people stop paying attention.

Memes are very good. So much is communicated in one shot and a few words. Thanks for sharing.
