Plastic Perfection

Cosmetic surgery, procedures and even make up have traditionally (and I use that word very loosely) been mainly a woman’s domain. Latest statistics show that men are opting to change their looks in alarmingly increasing numbers.

Botox injections, chin, calf and pec implant surgeries have had a dramatic increase in the last two years. One clinic reported some of their male clients were as young as 18. I was in a large department store the other week and I seriously mistook a young guy for a mannequin, I’m not even joking. He was mannicured to within an inch of his life and was wearing make up. I’m all for feeling good about the way you look but personally I prefer a more natural look.

I grew up in an era when teenagers wanted to look like Kurt Cobain so maybe I’m just too old to get why men and women want to look plastic these days. They’re looking for perfection but to me they look anything but.

Going under the knife has permanent consequences, I just home their decisions dont come back to bite them in their ass implants.

  1. There’s so much pressure to look perfect–it’s insane. Plastic is normal nowadays. It really all comes down to self-acceptance and being content with what you were given…unfortunately, many do not have that.

  2. Humans, both genders, have historically suffered from vanity – 18-19th century ‘dandies’ come to mind with their make-up and powdered wigs etc. Agree that natural is (usually) best – we have what we have in the way of physical attributes so why try to alter? enjoying your posts.

The rate and reach of info is increasing at an incredible speed—and with people sharing content (including of themselves), it makes up a false perception of what is deemed to be acceptable or desired. The scary thing is, with enough people doing it or people with influence doing it, even butt implants are deemed to be absolutely normal.

  4. If humans are destined to have their brains symbiosed with computers then it only follows the bodies should be plastically perfect. And needless to say, those of us who are accidentally turned into house cats will want to look purrfect 😀

    Alarming is the right word.
